Announcement Regarding Removed Episodes

Episodes 17, 27, and 45 of Blogs on Tape have been removed in response to harrowing information which has come to light about their author.

This is not the first time Blogs on Tape has parted ways with a creator, but will hopefully be the only time episodes need to be removed.

Any value those episodes had is irrevocably tarnished. I regret their loss, but allowing any echo of his voice to remain in our community would do more harm than good.

Blogs on Tape believes women.

What Happened to Blogs on Tape?

TL;DR: We got hacked.

My whole server was hit pretty hard, and Blogs on Tape was hit the hardest. For whatever reason this was the only section of my server which was vandalized to such an extent that I couldn’t save anything from it. It’s a particular bummer because I’d never thought to make backups for this site.

All of the episodes are fine, no worries there. As you read this they should already have been restored, and are available for listening. What I never thought to back up was the website itself, and the posts which linked to the audio files. I’m needing to re-learn the bizarre alchemy required to sync a podcast to services like iTunes, and I’ve spent a huge chunk of time adding each post back by hand. It was mind-numbing work, and I’m certain I messed up at least a few times. Particularly because I’ve done most of it while my left index finger was wrapped in a huge bandage, catching on stray keys and creating typos everywhere. So: if you notice anything wrong, please let me know in the comments! I’d like to get everything fixed.

One thing I didn’t bother adding back was the single episode of “Comment Section,” where Michal Raston, Sam Jack, and I discuss our own unscripted thoughts about the first 10 posts. It was fun to make, but I don’t think it was particularly interesting to listen to, nor was it really in the spirit of Blogs on Tape. We never did a second episode after the first, and its length made it the largest audio file I was serving, so I didn’t see any point keeping it around.

It will probably take a little while for the iTunes links to work again, but rest assured I’m working on it. Thank you, everyone, for your patience and support. Hopefully there will be new episodes again soon.
